SHOES, glorious SHOOOOOOES!

What is it about shoes that makes us women feel so,well- crazy? When we spot a certain shoe that stimulates our 'shoe pallette'-it's instant butterflies; it's the feeling of falling in love/lust-MUST.HAVE.IT!!Something a man can definitely never understand. And I never try to justify it.I get why men are so confused over our love of shoes. It's a material object that we stick our foot into whether it feels good or not(and of course the REAL pretty ones are usually the NOT)and we wear them despite that fact that our feet grow massive sores and bulges until they bleed and we walk funny!BUT...they just LOOK SO PRETTY!And make you feel sexy.Taller.Slimmer.Stylin.Powerful.It's something they can't have. Now I'm no 'girly girl' but when it comes to clothing and shoes this is where all my tomboy qualities go right out the window.
One thing I know for sure is LONG LIVE the WEDGE heel! I am so sick of every second season hearing that this particular shoe style is IN...then the next OUT.Only to be BACK in the next season. To me the wedge heel is a classic right up there with the stiletto. It's been around as long ago as the 30s-Wedges grew in popularity during World War II because of the lack of leather and rubber available in the United States. Leather and rubber were needed for the war effort. The fashion of the time called for height and wedges offered height and let's face it MUCH easier to walk in than skinny heels.Hence the longevity and popularity of this style.
So don't be throwing those wedges in the back of your closet for long; to me they are always a more comfortable and smart option for everyday wear that give you the fashion and height of a stiletto but without the discomfort. And just a classic right up there with the stiletto...

You tell em girl

"The last thing a young woman needs is another picture of a sexy pop star writhing in sand, covered in grease, touching herself. My image was an issue at my record label. I fought for months and cried at meetings. I got criticized for being arrogant because if you're sure of yourself as a woman they say you're a bitch whereas if you're a man and you're strong-willed it's normal."

Long Live McQueen

1969-2010

Was extremely saddened to hear of the unfortunate passing of one of my favorite designers Alexander McQueen. His innovative and beautifully crafted designs always with a hint of gothic aesthetic were an inspiration to myself and the store Twice Bitten. He leaves behind a wonderful legacy of his beautiful, ground breaking designs and leaves a large hole in the fashion industry. Such a tragic ending to such a wonderful career.
Long live McQueen!

DRESS YOUR AGE?HELL NO!

We've all seen those articles in the top fashion magazines-HOW TO DRESS YOUR AGE; with the following tips on how to dress in your 20's, 30's, 40's and beyond.Everytime I see these articles I can't help but gag a little on the rules they throw at every age group and the older you get the 'stuffier' your clothing must get.DOWN WITH THESE 'rules'I say!Of course there are some exceptions; Im not saying a 60 year old should wear the same outfits as a 16 year old; it does have to all be done with some taste and tact of course. But just because I have 'crossed over' into my 30's and am a Mom doesn't mean I am going to start raising the waistline of my jeans!I have actually found that my style has become sexier and more daring and innovative then ever before. The one thing I hate to hear when it comes to Twice Bitten is "I love your clothes; but I am too old to wear them!"I have had customers all the way from 12 years old to people in their 60's that are rocking our styles- styles that transcend to ANY age.We have a little something for everyone; as long as Twice Bitten suits your taste of course.
I adore the looks of ladies like Cyndi Lauper; Cher; Joan Jett etc. who have kept their style and kept very current and haven't sacrificed their sex appeal and their adventurous fashion nature.I just saw an interview today with Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper together for Viva Mac Glam; and I seriously couldn't take my eyes of Cyndi! And that says alot being beside the fashion 'IT' girl and phenomenon Lady Gaga.Cyndi was impeccable with a gorgeous black silk and lace dress suit; leather studded motorcycle gloves and massive wicked head piece that seemed to drown out Gaga's hairbow. These women give me peace and assurance, knowing that just because we age doesn't mean we have to sacrifice our personal style, flair and sex appeal!

THE BRITISH ARE COMING!THE BRITISH ARE COMING!

Yes the sounds of the 60's and the Beatles are a big influence on Fashion still today; what a wonderful decade it was for Fashion-and the Beatles always were on top of being cutting edge and experimental with their outfits; especially as the 60's rolled on(and the drug use became more heavy!).British fashion has always been a big influence on our style over here in North America- from the shaggy haircuts and skinny pants;skinny ties; Beatles boots; tight tees;but it always goes back to the Fab 4.Their influence on bands such as Oasis and Coldplay is plain as day(the sargeant Pepper military style jackets). We have added a new item to our store to pay homage to Britain and all the wonderful music and fashion they have given us from past to present!Check out our "British Invasion Tee"($46.00); it's a fab tunic tee with the graphic of the Union Jack distressed and punked out on the front; and a plain black back; very high quality tee- and it's not just styled as a regular tee; it has a bit of an 80's influence on the sleeves and a bit of a looser fit.Perfect for wearing with a pair of tights or skinny jeans-throw on a funky hat; your favorite sneakers or boots;top with a military styled blazer(in our vintage jackets category) and you will be rockin' the British invasion look from Twice Bitten.
